Kid Cudi Argues Hip-Hop Shows Need To Be Livelier In Response To Rock The Bells Cancellation

Rock The Bells’ cancellation in both Washington D.C. and New York was a devastating loss for hip-hop fans on the East Coast. Chang Weisberg, who is the owner of Guerilla Union and the RTB founder, says he is a “lost for words” and felt he’s “let down so many people.” There have been reports that the festival would have lost $3 million if they proceeded with the scheduled dates.

One of many high-profile performers was Kid Cudi. Last night, the former G.O.O.D. Music signee gave his opinion on cutting short RTB’s tour stops. In his lengthy Twitter response, Cudi spoke about the importance of hip-hop having more energetic performances, as well as adding variety in future festivals. Then, Cudi revealed his favorite rappers who can put on a show are Busta Rhymes and Diddy. Do you agree with Cudder? Read on below.

I dont sell the most records, u dont hear me on the radio if ever, and I def dont make the most money, but NO ONE can fuck w my live show. It doesnt matter whos the nicest w the raps or who makes the most paper. Those things dont mean shit on stage. Can u perform? From opening for A Trak and Steve Aoki in 09 performing for 20 people on top of a speaker to sold out arenas. I always perform my soul out. Excuse me, that was 07. So yea, been rippin.

Hip hop shows arnt exciting. I personally think thats why RTB fell off. With the exception of a few artists and legends we know and love. Aint nobody tryna hear a bunch of people yellin at u all day w all that testosterone, mean muggin n shit. People wanna smile and dance. Thats why dance festivals always win. The energy is always positive and people come to spread love and hear all types of great music. There should never be a festival devoted to one genre of music ever. It should be a cluster fuck of it all. Well, country but thats it haha.

Man i just wanna say this right now so theres no confusion. BUSTA RHYMES is the best live performer in Hip Hop. Then most def Red and Meth! I learned from them niggaz, especially Busta. And then of course my big brother Yeezus ;) And Puff know how to rock a show too. I like to have a Bowie outlook on things.

rock the bells didn’t happen not because of the acts, it didn’t happen cause its extremely inconvenient to go to alllll the way to JERSEY (especially when most people in NYC don’t own a car) for a festival that’s friday and saturday! people can’t get work off cause its october! Why are you having it in a stadium in Jersey? Also having a festival in a stadium makes no sense. Most people take time off and spend their money for festivals in the summer.

It def wasn’t the line up. This Rock the Bells line up was the best line up of the festival season and I’ve seen most of them, they def know how to perform.

BELIEVE!! A great hip hop festival can happen the people in the hip hop industry just need to take some cues from the jam band scene.

Kid Cudi is definitely right. I go to shows frequently and, unfortunately, rap shows often disappoint if they’re not independent rappers. The artists are late, lackluster, and give off the sense that we should be grateful they’re there. Method Man is an exception. He’s an incredible performer. I’ve seen him headline RTB with Wu and I’ve seen him for a few hundred people in upstate NY, and other crowds along the way. He is always the same and when I saw him in front of almost no one, he said right then he doesn’t care how many people are there, he’s glad we’re there, he loves to perform. Kendrick Lamar is also another mainstream exception. I’ve never seen Busta or Diddy, so can’t comment there.

Kudi is on point and yes Busta is the best rap performer I’ve seen live.

Rock The Bells fell off cuz Drake isn’t in it. period.

  • some white kid with no life

Diddy can’t rap to save his life, but the guy can bring a LOT of energy to a song. Busta is a great performer.

Red and Meth are both great performers. I’ve been to a Cudi show before however, and it was truly the most awful performance I’ve been too. Obviously there are a lot of variables with shows that can effect a performance (the sound crew, venue, etc etc), but it was so bad that I’ve completely avoided his shows ever since. Bone Thugs and MGK shows have always been hype as hell though.
