It’s no surprise that “Bound 2” is a fan favorite off Kanye West’s Yeezus. R&B legend Charlie Wilson has worked with West at some capacity and made iconic appearances on Watch The Throne and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, respectively. After hearing the news that West will produce for Wilson’s new album, we learn details of how they work in the studio during a recent interview with SoulCulture.

“I did maybe three or four songs with him to go on [Yeezus] and ended up with one,” he says. “And I asked him why didn’t he put the other the records? He said they were probably going to steal the show [Laughs]. And so he said we’ll save them for something else because I know they will be more standout songs.”

He added, “Cause he’s a trendsetter. And trendsetters are into making sounds and having other things and people come and follow and grab those sounds and take off with them. That’s what he’s really about. He’s a trendsetter and he wants to remain that. He just didn’t want to be a radio hitmaker and stuff like that. Cause people die out like that. When you can set trends and come up with new techniques and sounds. When people follow that, that’s good. I think that’s what’s he’s reaching for.”

The interview also touches on Wilson’s longevity in R&B and who he sees as the future. He cites Rihanna, Trey Songz, Beyonce and Miguel as artists that “can take care of the genre.” Watch the video below.
