The Los Angeles Times reported last weekend that charges have been filed in the murder of Kevin "Flipside" White, formerly of ex-Death Row rap group O.F.T.B., and another man, Markice Delshawn Brider. Kevin Phillips, 26, is being charged with two counts of murder in the shooting of White and Brider on September 23.

Flipside, native of Watts, CA, was a member of the group O.F.T.B., or Operation From The Bottom, that was signed to Death Row Records in the 1990s. The group was a fixture of the Watts rap scene for two decades releasing their debut album, Straight Up Watts, in 1992.

According to the L.A. Times,  Flipside and another woman were shot by Phillips and at least three other unknown assailants from a minivan around 7:25 p.m. on the evening of September 23. Ten minutes later, the second victim, Brider, was killed walking near a gym in the Imperial Courts housing project in Watts when the same minivan approached Brider, multiple people exited the car and shot Brider to death.

The police say the events of the murder were precipitated by a shooting that occurred earlier that afternoon when a man was grazed in the head by a bullet around 2:15 p.m. in the 2100 block of East 101st Street in Watts.
