Big Daddy Kane and Mister Cee have a history dating back to their high school days at Sarah J. Hale High School, when the two would collaborate on the streets of Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Later, Cee would work on many of Kane's early records, contributing scratches to some of the seminal hits on Kane's classic 1988 debut Long Live The Kane and continuing to work together over the following six years. Though their working collaborations came to an end, they've remained friends, and XXL spoke to Big Daddy Kane today regarding the recent prostitution solicitation allegations made against Cee, who resigned—then maybe didn't—from Hot 97 after 20 years in the DJ booth.

"I haven't spoken to him about it, I just let the brother know that if he need a corner man, I'm right here, and let him know that I love him," Kane said regarding the allegations. "He's family for life. He just texted me back and said, 'I love you too, and I'm cool.'

"He's done his thing up [at Hot 97] for a long time," Kane continued, focusing on Cee's long, established career at the station. "I don't think people understand how amazing that is, because you talk about someone that came in when Naughty By Nature and Onyx was the shit, and went out when 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa was. He survived what a lot of people couldn't. When the music went into the whole gangsta era, there were a lot of DJs who just didn't wanna play that and couldn't relate to it. When it changed to the Dirty South sound, a lot of cats couldn't adjust. He stayed with the times and did what he had to do to stay current and survive it."

Kane has recently been out on tour with his crew Las Supper, an R&B and hip-hop mix who dropped an album last March and will be heading back into the studio again soon. "Everything is beautiful; the crowd has been very receptive at the shows," he said about the group's recent tour. "It's such a new and different type of sound, and people really received it really well, man, I've enjoyed being out with those young cats. It's fun.

"Right now we're just performing, but we're going back in the studio next month," he said.
