Any artform that reaches its 40th anniversary is bound to create it's very own urban legends. Hip-Hop is no exception. Rap music with it's larger-than-life figures and it's often impenetrable codes will spawn a complex and intricate mythology that gets passed on through out the ages, regardless, of the truth. Whether, it be rumors of rappers sleeping with each other's wives, tales of violence or flat-out science fiction, hip-hop has some of the most colorful rumors ever told in pop culture.

XXL is sharing some of hip-hop's most outrageous urban legends. These are the stories that have echoed through time because of the audacity of the incidents described in them.

Tupac Slept With Faith Evans

The Rumor: During the heat of his tragic feud with the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac made a bold declaration on his Biggie-dissing song, "Hit 'Em Up," that he had slept with Biggie's then-wife, Faith Evans. It is considered one of the most famous rumors in hip-hop of all-time, as well as, being one of the lowest blows in rap battle, too.

The Truth: While, we can never know for sure in 2008, Faith finally spoke on the rumor in her 2008 memoir, Keep The Faith: A Memoir, where she denied allegations that a sexual encounter with 'Pac happened. Instead, Faith painted a picture of lascivious Tupac who accosted her at the premiere of Waiting To Exhale where Tupac rudely asked her to perform oral sex on him before she fled the room in tears.

The Secret Meeting To Destroy Rap Meeting

The Rumor: In 2012, a chain-mail letter purported to have been written by an unnamed music industry executive paints a picture of clandestine meeting in the early 1990s where a cabal of music industry executives conspired to destroy rap music by stripping away it's political and social elements and replacing them with mindless violent and misogynist gangster rap.

The Truth: While the letter is almost assuredly faked, one does wonder when you consider the lack of politics in hip-hop music these days.

Ghostface not taking too kind to the rumors punched Ma$e directly in his face and broke his jaw.

Bow Wow Was Sexually Assaulted By His Bodyguard

The Rumor: During Bow Wow's early days as a child rapper, Bow Wow was allegedly sexually assaulted by one of his bodyguards or a limo driver - depending on the story - when he was on tour. Bow Wow allegedly required several stiches in his anus to repair the damage from the attack.

The Truth: According to Snopes, this rumor has been floating about since February 26, 2001 being passed along from various internet message boards and social media outlets in the past twelve years. Given the nature of the crime, it is exceedingly high that this NEVER occurred. A crime of this nature would likely have been reported by doctors in the ER or to the authorities and it's unlikely that a rapper as high-profile as Bow Wow that this would not have been reported at any media outlet. No. This did not happen.

The rumors got so prevalent that even 50 Cent even claimed that he was suffering from the immune deficiency disease during the height of their feud.

The Truth: Cam'ron admitted that the reason for his weight loss was due to suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Cam even detailed his plight on his "I.B.S." for 2006's Killa Season.

Master P Kidnapped Pimp C

The Rumor: While the details of the story vary depending on the teller, the basic gist of the story is that Master P refused to pay Pimp C for their song, "Break 'Em Off." When Pimp C bristeld at this and started to shit-talk Master P in public, P retaliated by having his goons kidnap the Pimp, hog-tie to a chair in a motel room and pistol-whip him until he begged for his life.

The Truth: Considering this story is a staple of internet message boards, it seems highly unlikely a story like this actually occurred. Last year, The Fader published a posthumous interview with Pimp C where mentioned working with Master P on the record but did not mention any mysterious kidnappings that arose from the situation.
