Today In Hip-Hop: Diddy Hosts The 2005 MTV Video Music Awards

On this day, August 28, in hip-hop history…

2005: As the first rains of Hurricane Katrina hit landfall in the United States, Diddy hosted MTV’s annual Video Music Awards in Miami. While the storm cancelled much of the event’s pre-show activities, the show would go on as planned with Diddy in the role of host.

In other hip-hop moments taking place on the show, Kanye West would claim his first Moonman Award of his career, winning Best Male Video at the show for “Jesus Walks,” Missy Elliot would win two awards for her video for “Lose Control,” while Ludacris who claim Rap Video Of The Year for “Number One Spot.”
