Kendrick Lamar’s performance on Big Sean’s “Control (HOF)” has been one of the biggest stories in hip-hop this year and the attention that Kendrick has received from the verse can actually be quantified. According to Billboard, Kendrick Lamar’s twitter following jumped 510% in the week after the release of “Control.” It was enough to boost K. Dot into Billboard’s Social 50 chart, landing at number 15.
The song also had a positive effect on the followings of many of the rappers associated and named on the song. Jay Electronica, Pusha T, Big K.R.I.T., amongst others all enjoyed spikes in the range of 150% to 300%. Many insiders have insisted that Kendrick’s verse was “good for hip-hop” and now we have statistical proof that they were right.
