Big Sean Thinks He Also Went Hard On “Control”

Big Sean set the Internet ablaze earlier this week with the release of “Control,” a collaborative cut that features verses from Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica. While the track is originally Sean’s—and is one that was intended for his forthcoming Hall Of Fame, but was left off because of sample clearance issues—Kendrick’s aggressive, name-dropping bars have led to a litany of frenzied responses from rappers offended by either being called out by Kendrick or by being ignored by him.

Regardless, the majority of the hype around the track focuses on Kendrick’s verse, with the general consensus being that he had the best one on the track. But, never one to be bested, Big Sean recently told Vibe TV that he also feels he went hard on the song. He explained, “I ain’t no ho ass nigga like that to hear a verse like that and then be like ‘Oh, I gotta go back and [rewrite] my shit. Oh, I gotta protect myself.’ You know what I’m saying? It’s like nah, it is what it is. I’m a good ass rapper. Big Sean got bars… Listen to everything. Listen to ‘Control.’” Finally, he claimed, “I feel like my verse was harder,” though he didn’t specify whose verse his was harder than.

He also touched on his reaction the first time he heard the verse, admitting, “When I heard that verse I was like ‘Man, I’m not about to go back and change my verse. That’s cheating’… I could go back, change it. Make it this. I could namedrop. You know, I could do this. I could cut his verse up, but that ain’t the way of a OG. You know what I’m saying? That ain’t how G’s move.” What do you think—who had the best verse on “Control”?
