Timbaland has always been vocal about his feelings for Aaliyah. The late singer’s collaborator and mentor is protective of her material, especially when artists outside of her circle want to use her vocals for their records. During a revealing interview with Revolt TV, the super producer slammed recent collaborations from Drake and Chris Brown.

“In music, people always say, 'I’ma do a song with Aaliyah.' It will never work,” he said in the interview. “A lot of these rappers out here are awful. Chris Brown got a record; it won’t work. Drake could do a record with Aaliyah; it ain’t going to work. Aaliyah music only work with its soul-mate, which is me.”

Timbo is adamant about the R&B star’s legacy staying preserved. While he let his feelings be known, he decided to issue a public apology to Brown on Twitter. In his series of tweets, he says Aaliyah is a very sensitive subject matter and he has nothing but love for Brown.
