Macklemore peels back his layers in the latest episode of Life + Times, decoding his latest single “Neon Cathedral”. Explaining everything from the origin of the track to the deeper meaning it conveys, the Seattle rapper as usual holds no bars.

“I kind of played on religion and alcohol and how we use alcohol in our society”, explained the The Heist rapper. “We have this fate, this trust, and this commitment to drinking. And that’s something that I struggled with. A lot in the past. I haven’t drank alcohol in almost five years but it’s fascinating to me to go back and look at the hold it had on me”.

Macklemore also explains the beat behind the Ryan Lewis collaborated track, designating the tune as bluesy with a southern church vibe. The rapper spits a raw verse from the song in the segment, giving even more depth to the deep lyrics. – Miranda Johnson
