Don Cannon has been named as the new VP of A&R at the storied record label, Def Jam. The DJ/producer will keep his Atlanta address while working for the New York based label and be in charge of current and new artist projects as well as discovering new talent for the label, according to a report by Billboard.

"Don Cannon is exactly the kind of multi-faceted producer and modern-day A&R executive who understands the Def Jam mission and culture and where we are headed for the future,” said Karen Kwak, EVP, head of A&R, Island Def Jam Music Group. “He has already worked with some of our most successful artists, and we look forward to the fresh talent he will bring to the label.”

Cannon has created with a bevy of top notch recording artists in a producing and deejaying capacity including Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, T.I., Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and more. As well as working in the hip-hop arena, Cannon has also produced the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers season theme songs in addition to holding the position of Music Director of Sirius Satellite Radio’s “Shade 45” channel. He is excited about the new journey. “A music person can only dream about being at Def Jam, the most important hip-hop destination in the world,” Cannon said in a statement. “I feel I have a cutting edge vision for where the culture and hip-hop are heading and I’m excited to be joining the team. I’m already working 24/7 to drive the innovation of music forward and I’m confident we’ll land some big successes in the very near future.”

Cannon is replacing Sha Money XL who held the same position at Def Jam before moving on to take the helm as EVP of Urban A&R at Epic Records earlier this year.
