Dr. Dre may not be putting out any albums any time soon, but that doesn't mean he won't be contributing to new full-length projects in other realms. Film producer Gene Kirkwood mentioned recently in an interview with TheGrio.com that he's reached out to the super producer to score the new Nina Simone biopic that Kirkwood is executive producing. Nina, which is scheduled to come out some time later this year, will star Avatar lead Zoe Saldana in the title role.

“If we can get Dr. Dre involved, it could be very modern arrangements,” Kirkwood told the web site, before referencing Quincy Jones' iconic film work in the 1960s. “He’s going to see a rough cut in about a week and a half. I would love for him to do what Quincy did with In the Heat of the Night and In Cold Blood. Quincy did a lot of scoring. I would love if Dre’s next step would be to score it. That would be a great challenge.”

Simone's estate has also authorized a documentary to be made about the singer, with unreleased archival footage from performances throughout her distinguished career.
