This week finds Vic Mensa breaking on the solo tip, French Montana squading up in the Bronx, and Theophilus London joining a live band for a video. On a different level, Mr. Green links with Philly's Slaughter Rico for a live-sampled production.

Vic Mensa - "DIDITB4"

Apparently, the recent break-up of Kids These Days hasn't phased MC Vic Mensa one bit. Fresh off the news, Vic releases a frantic video that employs rapidly alternating camera shots, exceptional high key lighting and a fantastic sense of energy on the part of Mensa to make "DIDITB4" one of the more memorable visuals this week.

French Montana - "Ain't Worried Bout Nothin"

While the video itself isn't too out of the ordinary in terms of the camera angles and concept, French sells the video with his personality. With a Bronx backdrop setting the mood, Montana makes the video a celebratory event that is both authentically hip-hop yet still reminiscent of the golden era.

Open Mic Eagle - "Qualifiers"

In a random albeit novel move, Open Mic Eagle and partner Alwayz Prolific take over a local 24-7 laundromat to perform a live version of "Qualifiers." Not only is the music on point - a rarity in live performances - but the video direction allows for the sheer wackiness of the concept unfold naturally.

Bonic feat. Dom Kennedy - "Cheerios"

Although the video switches up toa 4:3 format instead of the current standard of 16:9, it's hard to fault the director when the visuals are so clean and exact. Utilizing a crisp black and white scheme, the former Philly's Most Wanted rapper Bonic creates a party-friendly atmosphere that refuses to sacrifice its artistic imagery.

Theophilus London feat. Menahan Street Band - "Rio"

Theophilus compliments his jazztastic freeform sound with equally textured and beautiful imagery on this latest video. Mixing high key lighting, excellents sets and a fantastic understanding of of visual juxtaposition, Theophilus' "Rio" is a simple yet effective video that stands alone based on its technical finesse.

The Turn-Up Twins (Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg) - "Ratchet, Turnup, Molly"

Although not a real music video, Hot 97's Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg's parody "Ratchet, Turnup, Molly" succeeds in a filmic sense by allowing the radio personalities' comedic sensibilities to shine through beyond all else. Which is a long way of saying this video made the XXL staff laugh a lot.

Mr. Green & Slaughter Rico - "East Coast Gas Station"

Producer Mr. Green brings his "Live From the Streets" video series back to Philly with one of the most audacious episodes yet - this time utilizing the noises heard at a gas station as the foundation of his production. Not only is the video a testament to Green's genius as a producer, but it's also a credit to director Sam Lipman-Stern for allowing the music to shine without sacrificing any cinematographic integrity.
