To celebrate Jackie Robinson Day today, New Era is taking a step back into history to pay tribute to the man who changed not only baseball, but also American culture itself.

This year New Era is celebrating the 59th anniversary of their 59Fifty cap. Designed in 1954, the signature 59Fifty was the first cap supplied to big league baseball teams including the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Brooklyn Dodgers, including Jackie Robinson were wearing the caps when they won the World Series in 1955 against the New York Yankees.

#FirstChangesEverything embodies the lasting effect of Jackie’s legacy as a true original, pioneer and flag-bearer. Being first is a big responsibility, and when Jackie led the Dodgers to a World Series win in 1955 wearing the 59Fifty, he changed the game forever in more ways than one.

New Era hopes to continue the tradition of being First through the inspirational story of Jackie Robinson. Share the importance of being first with the New Era tribute video and hashtag on this very important day.
