Kendrick Lamar Says MTV’s Hottest MCs List Is “Important for Hip-Hop”
Later tonight at 10 p.m. EST, the top two spots on MTV’s Hottest MCs list will be revealed. Everyone from Danny Brown to Kanye West has spoken about the list’s merit. Whether you agree or disagree, this year’s inductees have been widely discussed across rap bloggers, music journalists, and more.
During an interview with Rap-Up, it was Kendrick Lamar's turn to put in his two cents on the hip-hop power ranking. He noted that its competitive nature is a good thing for the culture.
“It is very important for hip-hop,” he said. “I love it. I love that they have debates like that. We need that. It is competitive.”
He also agrees that Kanye should be higher on the list, but admitted he wasn’t exactly sure what the guidelines are. Here’s the list of MCs that have locked down spots so far.
