According to a recent press release, a number of hip-hop classics will be available in cassette tape format for prison inmates.

Universal Records has teamed up with Sendapackage.com to re-release classic hip-hop LPs in cassette form. The deal will allow prison inmates to have access to old and new music.

The online store Sendapackage, which is in charge of providing care packages for inmates in New York, spoke with Jadakiss about the deal. He says it is beautiful thing for inmates to be able to get access to new music.

“That's one of my biggest markets. I make a lot of music for the inmates, so it's beautiful that they're able to get it on cassette and really absorb and listen to it," Jada said. "I'm sending packages [to inmates] all the time. Sometimes it's difficult 'cause they send third parties to get the money, and sometimes you get up in jail and some things can't get accepted, this and that–there's always a lot of discrepancies…Sendapackage makes everything much easier."

Currently, Universal plans on releasing albums from artists such as Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Young Jeezy and more. The label also wants to create new projects from a mix of hip-hop and R&B acts.
