- KeefHip-hop is in the Internet age full force. With that, comes an abundance of viral material from all of our favorite rappers. Some of the material, however, is just flat out, unnecessary. Here, <em>XXL</em> points out and examines Five Unnecessary Recent Announcements in Rap.<br />Editor's Note: This is an update to <a href="http://www.xxlmag.com/features/2012/08/five-unnecessary-recent-announcements-in-rap/#1">this original post</a>.
- Big SeanVideo to Announce Mixtape<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/bctk-2UA_7w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>A video to announce an album is one thing. A video to announce a mixtape is entirely different. Especially considering, Big Sean letting a python slither down his shoulders without the Detroit rapper saying single word, doesn't exactly say much.
- 2 ChainzArtwork to Announce a SingleHaving Kanye West featured on your single is a big deal, but for 2 Chainz to unleash artwork catered to just the single feels a bit too much.
- T.I.Music Video Teaser<object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FP-lfrUDOgk?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FP-lfrUDOgk?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>This trailer for "Go Get It" is pretty dope, but why not release the entire video?
- Rick RossVideo to Reveal Album Cover Artwork<object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/j_OyXsxA4qA?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/j_OyXsxA4qA?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>Granted, Rozay's viral game is extremely on point, but dropping a video to unveil the cover artwork definitely feels like overkill.
- DJ KhaledVideo to Preview Album Photo Shoot<object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DQRGSqwrA1k?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DQRGSqwrA1k?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>Actual photos from the album's photo shoot would suffice. Video, however? Unnecessary.
- Screen shot 2013-01-03 at 7.53.08 AMUPDATED: Announcement to Announce An Album Title Unveiling DateIt's no question that the Bawse Ricky Ross had one of hell of a year in 2012. So when he announced that he was going to announce his <em>God Forgives, I Don't</em> follow up on 1/1 to kick off 2013, it seemed like a good idea. However, as things didn't go according to plan, Rozay's since pushed back this unveiling date to January 7th—thereby turning what sounded like a good marketing scheme into simply a call of attention. <br /><br />Guess, we'll have to wait for the press conference to figure out the album's release date.
- Screen shot 2013-01-03 at 8.56.00 AMAnnouncing a mixtape is one thing but, revealing the cover art for a 'tape before even dropping a single promo record or an actual release date just seems pointless.
