• Drilluminati Intro
This week, King Louie dropped his highly anticipated Drilluminati mixtape. One of the most promising prospects out of Chicago, Louie dropped Drilluminati to follow up his Motion Picture and Showtime projects from earlier this year. The new mixtape showcases a major step up in production value, with beats from the likes of J.U.S.T.I.C.E League, Sonny Digital, Shawty Redd and more. We caught up with the Epic Records signee to get the story behind the making of his latest project and have him decode a few of his most clever bars. Check out Louie’s breakdown here and download Drilluminati at LiveMixtapes.com. — (as told to Neil Martinez-Belkin @Neil_MB)

I was there for like a week and we knocked out a couple joints. They’re pretty cool dudes. It was a nice feeling, man, ‘cause I grew up on that music and the artists that they’ve previously worked with. I always wanted to rap over their beats, and then when I finally met ‘em I came with the heat. I didn’t even write those songs. I just went in the booth and came up with it right there off the top of the dome.

Louie Decoded: “I’m ridin’ with two pumps and one for my asthma / They know I’m the king, these bitches callin’ me massuh”

There’s some asthmatics out there, including myself, and some of them don’t think they’re cool ‘cause they got asthma. So I just try to make everything cool—even if it ain’t cool, I’ll make it cool.
• "Band Nation" [Prod. By Nez & Rio]
"Band Nation" [Prod. By Nez & Rio]
That’s a Nez & Rio beat. They’re a couple of my homies from Chicago. I recorded this a while ago and we decided to re-release it. This was actually supposed to go on Dope & Shrimp because that was supposed to be a mixtape. But once we got the deal and we decided to make it an album, we let it go. But we decided to put it out again ‘cause it didn’t really get enough recognition when it first got leaked.

Louie Decoded: “They scream Man Up Band Up, I gotta theme / Yeah my L is an M, catch me on the big screen”

My life is a movie, man.
• "Rated R" [Prod. By Shawty Redd]
"Rated R" [Prod. By Shawty Redd]
That’s with Shawty Redd, man. That was just a crazy track. Shawty Redd hadn’t really done nothing since he got out, so I was one of the first people to get to work with him since he got out. Salute to him, he’s a real dude too. I’m rocking with him hard.

Louie Decoded:“Shoe strings for machine, I got that Mac on me / Hot heads be cool, for we wack homie.”

We call Chicago Chiraq Drillanois, and I know guys who carry Mac-10’s on shoe strings. Like a real shoe string. That’s how they carry their guns, under their coats.
• "2 Pair" [Prod. By Sonny Digital]
"2 Pair" [Prod. By Sonny Digital]
I did that with Sonny Digital when I was in L.A. That was another song I just came up with right off the top and we knocked it out. Sonny's a cool dude and he liked my music, so it motivated me to go hard on the beat.
• "Dope Smoke" [Prod. By Soundz]
"Dope Smoke" [Prod. By Soundz]
Soundz is a guy I met when I was out in L.A. also. I just did a lot of work out there when I went out to get some new teeth. People who've been following me for a while know I had got hit by a car a few years back where I broke both my legs, my lung collapsed and I broke my teeth. And I went a while with my teeth the way they was. It was the least of my worries. But then when I got with the label, they helped me get it right. Shout out to L.A. Reid. My new teeth cost $50,000.
• "My Niggaz" [Prod. By Hearon Trackz]
"My Niggaz" [Prod. By Hearon Trackz]
Shout out to Hearon. He actually did the “Loud Pack” song and “Pack On Me." You recognize the voice? That be on him on there. He’ll just tweak it out and make it sound cool. But yeah, the “My Niggas” joint, I didn’t write that either. I just went in there and gave it my all, man. About my niggas. We’re gonna shoot a video for that. I got a meeting with D Gainz [director of Chief Keef's "I Don't Like" video] tomorrow, and hopefully we can get him to shoot the video. I love D Gainz visuals. He got the best visuals.

"Val Venis" wasn't on any of my official projects, so I wanted to do that and keep it out there while it's still doing what it do.
• "ESPN" [Prod. By Soundz]
"ESPN" [Prod. By Soundz]
That's a dope-ass joint, too. I was in L.A. when I did this. When I listened to the beat, it just kinda gave me an ESPN feeling. If you listen to it, it sounds like ESPN or Sportscenter's about to come on. That's what I was thinking about when I went in. I didn't even write that hook.
• "Feeling Like A Billion Bucks" [Prod. By J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League]
"Feeling Like A Billion Bucks" [Prod. By J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League]
I didn’t write this one either. Like when I heard these J.U.S.T.I.C.E League beats, I just knew I liked them and just spit it. And it turned out great like that.

Louie Decoded: More Mo with the Ace, yeah I call it Ma$e"

Yeah I mix Moet with my Ace of Spades and I call it Ma$e. It tastes good, but champagne, all that shit tastes the same. Ace kinda like sweet. That shit doesn't taste like it should cost that much, I don’t know.
• "Broke" [Prod. By Young Chop]
"Broke" [Prod. By Young Chop]
Chop’s beats make you go hard, man. I had to go hard on that. Shout out to Chop, man. That’s my dude. He’s fucking shit up. I love what he’s doing.

"More Bandz" [Prod. By Domeno Beatz]
I do the Autotune, shit. This beat just takes over you, I don’t know. It hypnotizes you or something. I don’t know what it is, but I love that beat, man. That shit could be elevator music. You know how elevator music is just pleasant music? That’s one of my favorite joints.
