Salaam Remi Ranks No. 1 As Nas' Best Go-To Producer

nas salaam remi

The former Fugees producer found Nas as he was hitting his artistic stride as an adult. Through tragedy, the loss of Nas’ mother, the two were able to reinvent Nas once more as a thoughtful, observant narrator. Whether it was the cinematic appeal of “Get Down” or the the uplifting “I Can,” Esco was put to bed forever, replaced by a confident Nasir Jones who embraced his contradictions, whims and all in between with the savviness of a YMCA hoopster hitting scoop shot after scoop younger against younger competition. Their continued collaboration further centered around Nas’ maturation: Street Disciple brimmed with the newness of marriage, while Life Is Good exuded the rapper’s confidence in moving on. In both cases, Remi reminded Nas of his omniscient roots, to wit: “Thief’s Theme” and “A Queens Story.” The producer is an important part of Nas’ inner-circle and his contributions as a confidant to the rapper are as valuable as his work behind the boards.
