Oklahoma City Thunder on Lil Wayne: “Like Anyone Else, He Needs a Ticket”

The Oklahoma City Thunder have responded to Lil Wayne’s claim that he was denied by the team to be in their arena.

Weezy tweeted about not being able to enter Chesapeake Energy Arena last night (May 31) to watch the host OKC Thunder play the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of their NBA Western Conference Finals series.

“Was going to go to the Thunder game tonight but was denied by the team to be in their arena. Wow. Smh. Go Spurs!” Wayne tweeted in disappointment.

However, when talking to the Associated Press, Thunder spokesman, Dan Mahoney, confirmed that Weezy’s reps contacted the team for tickets, but claims that the rapper’s camp was adamant about him sitting courtside. Despite Weezy’s star power, the Thunder couldn’t accommodate him without a ticket.

“We’d love to have him at a game,” said Mahoney. “But like anyone else, he needs a ticket.”

“They said they’ll give him some tickets on the front row behind, but they’re not really tryin’ to have him sittin’ courtside,” Young Money President Mack Maine told MTV News.

The Thunder aren’t the first NBA team to draw Weezy’s ire.

Last June, Wayne voiced his anger toward Miami Heat stars, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, for never shouting him out when they saw him sitting courtside during games. Subsequently, when the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals, Wayne partied the night away with Birdman, Mavs’ owner Mark Cuban and star player and Finals MVP, Dirk Nowitzki, at Miami’s Club Liv.—Mark Lelinwalla
