The Undercover Hookmaster: Jeremih’s Success As a Featured Guest
Despite his 2009 breakout hit "Birthday Sex," 24-year-old Jeremih—instead of knocking out solo bangers—has gradually built up his reputation as a go-to hookmaster within the hip-hop landscape. While he hasn't quite yet achieved the star power of household names like Akon or T-Pain, he's certainly made a case for himself, finding success by teaming up with rappers in need of a proper radio smash. Though he hasn't released an album since 2010's <em>All About You</em>, he's sustained his relevance on the airwaves by teaming up with a who's who list of rappers. Here's 10 of Jeremih's most impressive guest spots. —<em>XXL Staff</em> (<a href="http://twitter.com/#!/XXLSTAFF">@XXLStaff</a>)
  • Fab - My time
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SAFWA7qxC0E?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SAFWA7qxC0E?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Fabolous & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "My Time" off <em>Loso's Way</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2009 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: Dramatic. It's perfect for sports games, and rightfully so, the song received extensive playing time at the Yankees stadium in 2010.</p>
  • ace hood love somebody
Ace Hood featuring Jeremih "Love Somebody," <i>Ruthless</i> (2009)
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SUUKL0HZk0w?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SUUKL0HZk0w?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Ace Hood & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "Love Somebody" off <em>Ruthless</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2009 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: Somewhat inspirational, but it could use a DJ Khaled appearance.</p>
  • Sheek Party After 2
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0LWuJf8vjlc?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0LWuJf8vjlc?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Sheek Louch & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "Party After 2" off <em>Donnie G: Don Gorilla</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2010 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: Women-friendly. Girls love mellow R&B crooning driving the rap-mobile, but they probably won't like the <a href="http://canadaconnections.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Sheek-Louch-Donnie-G-Don-Gorilla-Explicit-2010-Bootleg.jpg">cover</a> of Sheek's album, <em>Donnie G: Don Gorilla</em>.</p>
  • Lloyd Banks I dont Deserve You
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xcVaPa3I1H8?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xcVaPa3I1H8?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Lloyd Banks & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "I Don't Deserve You" off <em>H.F.M.2</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2011 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: It's been sometime since G-Unit bulldozed across the game, so we're not certain if Banks is still receiving that Miami-groupie love for him to semi-chivalrously give up wifey. It's a good record, though.</p>
  • (Just) The tip Plies
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/K-BoqE0lY5s?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/K-BoqE0lY5s?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Plies & Ludacris & Jeremih </p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "Just (The Tip)" off <em>Purple Heart</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2011 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: For a self-claimed goon, Plies has too many Aveeno-sipping, vaginal-serenading singles. But, hey, if it works, why break it? </p>
  • Diggy feat. Jeremih
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5innG_SeKcQ?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5innG_SeKcQ?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Diggy & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "Do It Like You" off <em>Unexpected Arrival</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2011 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: Another thing Jo Jo should've/could've/would've done.</p>
  • Wale Ross - That way
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C_0PnbdDhTQ?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C_0PnbdDhTQ?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Wale & Rick Ross & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "That Way" off <em>Ambition</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2011 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: Addictive. From the Curtis Mayfield sample to bombarding radio plays, and a balance between Wale and Rawse's verses around the hook, this song was an inescapable hit on urban radio. </p>
  • GirlsGoWild
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Ede5F7AsvY?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Ede5F7AsvY?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: 50 Cent & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "Girls Go Wild"</p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2012 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: A bit cringe-inducing. 50 selling energy drinks? Fine. 50 making movies? Cool. 50 doing hooks? Great. But 50 singing verses? Come on, son!</p>
  • travisporter ride like that
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Vqw05kRjwSg?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Vqw05kRjwSg?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Travis Porter & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "Ride Like That" off <em>From Day 1</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2012 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: Instructional. It teaches women how to "ride." </p>
  • AMEN DRAKE MEEK JEREMIH
    <object width="620" height="400"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8Ob4AQ874Qo?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8Ob4AQ874Qo?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="620" height="400" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><p><strong>WHO</strong>: Meek Mill & Drake & Jeremih</p> <p><strong>TRACK</strong>: "Amen" off <em>Dreamchasers 2</em></p><p><strong>WHEN</strong>: 2012 </p><p><strong>THE SONG IS</strong>: Amen for the quality, but Drake could've done the hooks, too. Just saying. </p>
