Pete Rock Admits Emotions Got Best of Him in Twitter Tirade Against Lupe Fiasco

Upon reflecting, Pete Rock says his emotions got the best of him after hearing Lupe Fiasco’s new single, “Around My Way,” a flip of Pete and CL Smooth’s classic “T.R.O.Y.”

"At that point, my emotions were working—I'm still thinking about Heavy D and Troy is a dear friend to me, and my emotions got the best of me, and I expressed myself on Twitter," Pete Rock told MTV News' Sway Calloway on Tuesday (May 29).

Tension first boiled over last Monday (May 21), when Rock took to Twitter after hearing Lupe’s track, which sampled his iconic “T.R.O.Y.” record.

"No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made Outta anguish and pain. When it's like that it should not be touched by no one," Rock tweeted after hearing the track. "I'm not flattered @ all. Dat sh-- is wack, and the producer should be ashamed of his f---in self. Smh."

The legendary producer later tweeted that he and Lupe had settled their difference via a phone call. But Fiasco disputed that strongly.

“That’s foul!” shrieked Lupe on Sway’s Sway in The Morning Shade 45 radio program, referring to Pete’s twitter comment, which apparently increased tensions instead of settling them. “It was supposed to have been settled, but instead of him doing what he’s supposed to do, he comes and puts out this weak, half-ass statement.”

While talking to Sway yesterday, however, Rock stood by his claim that the aim of the conversation was to squash the beef and move on.

"When he called, he was upset, and I just tried to talk him through that and say, 'Look, man, at the end of the day, let's just fix this thing,' " Rock explained to MTV News. "My whole goal was to just squash this thing, fix the music and just move on."

Rock didn’t leave without saying that he still is a fan of Lupe’s music.—
