Big Sean has emerged as one of the star students of XXL’s Freshman class since appearing on the 2010 Freshmen cover. Yesterday (May 14), the G.O.O.D. Music MC used his knowledge for the greater good when he played principal for a day at a Michigan high school.

Sean, visited Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan (alma mater of Eminem), along with MTV’s Sway and Royce Da 5’9, as part of the Get Schooled Detroit Challenge, a program sponsored by General Motors, United Way and Viacom that aims to keep Detroit-area kids in school.

Lincoln won the contest by improving its attendance rates by nearly 9%. Their prize was a day with Sean, who played unofficial principal and visited classes throughout the day to speak to students about the importance of staying in school.

“One of my New Year’s resolutions was to be more involved, especially with education,” Sean told Detroit’s ABC 7 News.  “So this was the perfect way to get involved with the school and it’s tight to see the kids so excited.”

Sean, a Detroit native, was a standout student during his days at neighboring Cass Technical High School and told students that he earned a scholarship to Michigan State after graduating with a 3.7.

"Showing up to school, all day, every day, is one of the most important things students can do to reach their educational goals and to go on to success later in life," said Sean in a press release statement. "I am so proud of my hometown of Detroit for tackling attendance issues head on and I am so excited to celebrate the achievements of the students who worked so hard throughout the attendance challenge."— Calvin Stovall (calvinstovall)
