Jay-Z’s Rocawear Lays Off Staffers For ‘Economic’ Reasons

The day before Jay-Z's daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, was born, the music mogul was forced to lay off nearly half of the New York City employees of his Rocawear clothing line.

According to the New York State Department of Labor website, 28 employees out of 56 were let go for "economic" reasons.

On January 7, Jay-Z and wife Beyoncé gave birth to their first born, daughter Blue Ivy Carter. The name, an ode to Jay-Z's Blueprint albums and his favorite hue, and Ivy a representation of to roman numeral IV, or four, Jay and Bey's favorite number, the number of both of their birthdays, the number of their wedding day, the number they both tattooed on their ring fingers and the title of B's latest album.

Earlier this week, Jay-Z vowed not to use the word “Bitch” anymore now that he’s the proud parent of a baby girl —at least that’s what he expressed via a poem he recently wrote.

In the poem, Hov writes, ”Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich/I didn’t think hard about using the word bitch/I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it/Now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it.

“No man will degrade her, or call her name,” he continues. “I’m so focused on your future, the degradation has passed. I wish you wealth, health and insight. Forever young you may pass. Blue Ivy Carter, my angel.” —Gina Montana
