On January 12, 2010, a devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake shook the island of Haiti, killing 300, 000 people and leaving another 1.5 million residents homeless and without medicine and food. Wyclef Jean, a native of Haiti, was particularly proactive in his attempts to raise relief funds through his Yele Haiti foundation, even attempting to run for office in the presidential elections that followed. Two years later, coverage of the quake has died down, but the country is still recovering from the destruction and hip-hop stars are still involved in the effort.
