Dr. Dre Gets Heat From PETA Over Fur-Laced Beats By Dre Headphones

Dr. Dre is catching heat from PETA.

After last week’s news that Beats By Dre was releasing $695 limited edition Oscar de la Renta fox fur headphones, the animals rights group didn’t waste time hollering at the legendary producer and rapper.

In a letter sent to the Hollywood Reporter, PETA representative Michelle Cho asks Dr. Dre to reconsider putting the fox fur headphones out.

“We’re writing today after reading about your new fox-fur headphones design with Oscar de la Renta,” Cho wrote. “We wanted to get in touch to urge you to keep fur and exotic-animal skins out of your Beats by Dre designs. Foxes, minks, rabbits, and other animals—including cats and dogs—are bludgeoned, genitally electrocuted, strangled with wire nooses, drowned, and even skinned alive for their pelts. Most animals killed for their fur are slaughtered in China, where there are no penalties for those who abuse animals on fur farms.”

She goes on to attach a short video all about the harsh realities of the fur trade and goes on to say that Dre would be joining designers such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klien and Tommy Hilfiger, who have all banned fur from their designs, if he chooses to pull the fox fur headphones.
