Top Fashion Faux Paws of 2011

Yesterday (December 29), XXL looked back on 2011’s fashion trends—from animal print to snapback hats—and took notes on who wore them best. Today, XXL remembers who wore it worst. From Kreyshawn’s Mickey Mouse sequence dress to Drake’s multi-blue, Versace satin shirt, hip-hop certainly took a number of unforgettable fashion missteps over the past 365 days. Here are XXL’s Top 10 Fashion Faux Pas of 2011.—XXL Staff

10. Childish Gambino

2011 Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival - Day 1

Coming on stage at the 2011 Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival with uncombed hair, '80s length shorts for country club boys and a T-shirt with a country singer equals a very questionable performance outfit. Gambino's known for his preppy, hipster look, but no one's quite sure what category this attire fits in.

9. Busta Rhymes

BET Awards '11 - Arrivals

Just when hip-hop had seen it all, Bussa Buss showed up to the 2011 BET Awards with a brown brain-like vest over a white tee and jeans to match. Next time, leave the brain at home.

8. Soulja Boy

Soulja Boy - Fashion

The S.O.D. leader has been known for his eccentric chains and lavish apparel, but at the 2011 American Music Awards, Soulja Boy Tell 'Em hit the red carpet with his trademark white sunglasses and a multi-colored, silk button-down shirt. Only buttoning his ensemble half way, SB made sure to wear a white wife beater underneath to cover his tattooed chest. Not the worst thing worn on the red carpet this year, but it certainly makes the list.

7. Lil B

Lil B- Fashion

The Bay is known for its free-spirited clothing and sense of style, and Lil B rocks out in whatever makes him feel comfortable for the day. Best known for his small, American Apparel V-neck T-shirts and far-below-the-waist skinny jeans, the Based God recently photographed in a clashing red, gold, purple and white blazer. Let’s not forget the purple and turquoise San Francisco fitted to match. He clearly lives in a based world.

6. Lil' Kim

Winterbeatz Music Festival - Sydney

Taking the stage at the Winterbeatz Music Festival in Sydney, Australia, the Queen Bee rocked an outfit inspired by Michael Jackson and Madonna as she wore a sequenced black blazer, black mesh tights and tank top and a black leather belt to "match." They say black goes with everything, but black sequence, leather and mesh have no business together. Michael and Madonna would be ashamed.

5. Kardinal Offishall

Bringing Katt Williams' Boondocks character to life, Kardinal Offishall dressed in a burnt-orange suit, gold coat with fur lining and black hard-bottom shoes to the 2011 Juno Awards in Canada. Fitted like A Pimp Named Slick Back on his way to the Annual Player's Ball, the Toronto-bred rapper has clearly taken notes from Kreayshawn on how to bring cartoon characters to life.

4. Nicki Minaj

While Nicki keeps coming with WTF outfits to award shows and performances, it looks like Roman showed up to the VMAs this year. With three different colors in her hair, a rainbow-colored mouth mask, an ice cream chain and who knows how to describe the rest of her outfit.

3. Kreayshawn

Kreay's been a character since she stepped on the scene with her official single, "Gucci Gucci." While her black and gold hair and multiple cartoon tattoos just add to her edgy personality, her sequenced dress at this year's VMAs put her sense of style in XXL's Top 5 worst dressed rappers of the year. Wearing a red, gold and green Mickey and Minnie Mouse dress with red Nikes to match, the petite rapstress left fans speechless. Artists can usually get away with anything, but this ensemble doesn't fall in that category.

2. Drake

Drizzy's become known for wearing velour sweatsuits and grandfather-knit, Bill Cosby-esque sweaters he wears. So when he tried to change it up for his 25th birthday, Drake thought he was on one when he stepped into Las Vegas’s Tao nightclub with a blue, Versace button-up shirt.

1. Lil Wayne

Weezy's been known to appear in random, mismatched clothing from time to time, especially during live performances. When he showed up wearing a red, furry hat, pajama pants and white T-shirt to one of his I Am Music Tour shows, fans thought they had seen it all. But just months later, the YMCMB leader rocked leopard-print jeggings over blue, Ralph Lauren briefs at the VMAs.
