    Animal print
Of the many styles that have been prevalent among rappers in 2011, none caused more eyebrow-raising than animal print. Earlier in the year, Drake rocked a cheetah-print button-up shirt while attending Grammy weekend festivities and Kanye West sported a $3,000 Givenchy leopard bomber jacket to a show during Paris Fashion Week. Then, in August, Lil Wayne rocked a pair of white spotted-leopard-print skinny jeans during his performance at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, one of many animal-inspired pieces worn by hip-hoppers that night; Jay-Z wore a snakeskin-brimmed snapback and Tyler, the Creator’s cap had a leopard design underneath the lid.

    Wooden Jesus Pieces
Originally popularized in the 1990s by MCs like The Notorious B.I.G. and more recently Jay-Z and Kanye, the famed Jesus piece has long been embraced by rappers. But, recently, the formerly all-gold pendant has gone through a noticeable transformation, thanks to a local Brooklyn company called Good Wood NYC, which reintroducing the must-have fashion accessory in solid wood. Kid Cudi, Justin Bieber, LeBron James and Amber Rose are among the other celebrities seen rocking the item.

    Snapbacks
Snapback hats, produced by the likes of creators New Era and Mitchell & Ness, became a favorite in hip-hop circles once again this year and rappers like Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Kanye and Jay-Z are credited with re-popularizing the head wear in 2011. “It’s the new urban crown, especially because the sovereign of hip-hop has worn it,” stylist June Ambrose told <em>XXL</em> for the October 2011 issue.

    Christian Louboutin
Christian Louboutin shoes have been a staple for women for quite some time, but in 2011, the men of hip-hop embraced the all-too-popular red bottoms, too. Lil Wayne, Swizz Beatz, Birdman, Shawty Lo and Rick Ross, among others, were caught sporting a variety of the high-end CLs during performances and red carpet events. And, while Jay-Z name-checked the women’s shoe line years ago, Ross gave the men’s line its biggest co-sign earlier this year on DJ Khaled’s “I’m on One” track, rapping, “Walking on the cloud, suspended in thin air/The ones beneath me recognize the red bottoms I wear.”

    Leather pants
It’s no secret: Kanye loved leather in 2011. Not only did he rock red and black leather pants numerous times throughout the year (mostly in conjunction with his own Nike Air Yeezys 2), but he also rocked a leather kilt custom made for him during his Watch the Throne tour. Big Sean, Pusha T, Pharrell William and will.i.am are among the other spitters that rocked leather bottoms the past year.

    Graphic Tees
Graphic tees were the in-thing in 2011, with even big-name, high-end brands like Versace and Givenchy dropping their versions of the simple tops this year. Diddy, Big Sean, Kanye, Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz, among a long list of others, were spotted wearing printed T-shirts throughout the year, with Jay and ‘Ye taking the trend a step further by having Givenchy create customized shirts for them for their Watch the Throne Tour with images from the <em>WTT</em> album cover, which they wore during every stop.

    Denim Jackets
The denim jacket is undeniably the one item of clothing that crosses genres, status, eras and even fashion steez. And while it seems to always be prevalent to some capacity, the jean jacket made a heavy return to urban culture in 2011. A favorite denim jacket maker of rappers like Kanye and Big Sean in 2011 was Balmain, whose Homme Denim jacket cost approximately $1313.

    Royalty Look
For years, rappers have used royal titles to refer to themselves (i.e. King of the South, CyHi the Prynce). But in 2011, regal times influenced more than just monikers in hip-hop. From tops with epaulettes—a type of ornamental shoulder piece used as insignia of rank by armed forces and a sign of royalty—to emblems adorning jackets, another military detail that represented class and status in the age of Kings and Queens, among other royal-inspired styles, the royal look was a big hit with celebutants the past year.
