French Montana recently chose to sign with Diddy's Bad Boy label, but the Bronx rapper is now letting his fans make the decisions... as far as his next single goes, that is.

French recently chatted with XXLMag.com about the effective method which he credits with gaining him more popularity these days.

“I think it’s because the way I do my thing now,” French says. “I changed my format. I don’t pick songs no more. I put out a mixtape [and] the most requested song, I go with that one.”

French can use the extra input being that he's been extra busy lately. Besides signing to Bad Boy, he just dropped his Lockout mixtape which is a joint effort with Waka Flocka Flame. And, oh yeah, he finally debuted the video for his break out single “Shot Caller” featuring his friend Charlie Rock on the hook.

“The story of that beat, I had did that for Funkmaster Flex,” French shares. “I always liked that record [‘Funky Child’ by Lords of the Underground.]. The part that was catchy to me was the horns on the ‘Funky Child’ record. I went to my producer, Harry Fraud. He sat on it, he didn’t want to do it. But I came in the studio one day and made him do it. Then Charlie Rock was just there while we was making the beat, then he kept coming out with that melody on the chorus of ‘Shot Caller.’  Then I said,  ‘you need to go in there and do that.’ The song started playing in the strip clubs and took off from there.”
