Christmas definitely came early for hip-hop fans in Los Angeles, California, on Friday (December 16) as the annual Power 106 Cali Christmas Jam, held at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, brought the likes of Drake, J. Cole and Big Sean, among many others, to La La Land.

After running onstage with a scarf wrapped around his face and spray can in hand (which he used to tag "YMCMB" on the DJ booth), Drizzy momentarily shut the city down with the help of his famous friends. His first surprise guest was his "little brother,” Justin Bieber , who performed the duet “Trust Issues” with his Canadian brethren. Young Money label mate Tyga also hit the stage for a rendition of his hit track “Rack City.” But the highlight of the night was when Lil Wayne joined Aubrey to perform “H.Y.F.R.” and “The Motto” off his Take Care LP.

Drake wrapped up his set by shouting out one of his favorites, the late, great Aaliyah. “Make it sound sweet for my people in L.A. Make it sound sweet for Aaliyah, ” he said before breaking into the closer "Headlines" and thanking the city of L.A. for a sold-out show.

Former XXL freshman Big Sean hit the stage with an over-the-top white fur head piece for “I Do It,” off his LP, Finally Famous., and gave Drake some competition with his own set of surprise appearances. Fellow G.O.O.D. Music member Common shared his new single “Celebration,” off The Dreamer/The Believer album, and Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown and Roscoe Dash also hit the stage to perform “My Last,” “Gang Bang,” and “Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay," respectively. Sean closed his set with an overly energetic-performance of  “Dance (Ass).”

“Next year we taking it to whole new heights, really having great songs that people can live to, ride to, smoke to, have sex to, cry to, dream to, to be the soundtrack to their lives," he said.

Roc Nation's J. Cole had every girl in her seat singing along to “All I Want Is You,” while his male fans rocked on to “Higher.” At one point he slowed things down with “Daddy’s Little Girl” and “Lost Ones.” After giving thanks to the crowd for their hand in getting him nominated for the Grammy for Best New Artist of the Year, Cole rapped to "Nobody's Perfect" and then shut it down with "Work Out" and "In the Morning."

Audio Push kicked off the show with their hit “Radio" and then LoveRance and YG joined the stage to perform “Up” as the crowd rose to their feet. YG finished it off with a surprise from Nipsey Hussle to spit “Bitches Aint Shit” and the well-known “Toot It And Boot It.” “New music to drop at the top of the year, be on the look out, don’t sleep,” the tattooed MC told the crowd. —Monica Camacho
