After being heavily scrutinized by the media for her use of the N-word, White Girl Mob member V-Nasty is finally speaking up, explaining why she feels she has the right to use the racial slur.

For the 21-year-old rapper, born Vanessa Reece, she makes a distinction between the word "nigga" and the word "nigger," the latter which she says she absolutely never says and tolerates.

"Now if I hear somebody say it with an '-er,' I'm gonna speak up!" Nasty, who has two half-Black children, told LA Weekly. "I don't take that shit lightly. I wish somebody would come up and call my daughter or my son the N-word in that way."

V-Nasty also says she's gotten comfortable using the N-word because in her circle, which includes Black friends, too, it's acceptable. "They're used to it, they don't give a fuck, you feel me?" she says. "What, 'cause of my skin I can't be ghetto?... In Oakland it doesn't matter."

Although V-Nasty told the site she doesn't plan on using the N-word in her music moving forward, she says she does feel singled-out, especially since other non-Black rappers, like Fat Joe, who is half Puerto Rican half Cuban, use the word, too.—Mariel Concepcion
