Russell Simmons has been a staple at the Occupy Wall Street movement and he doesn’t plan on letting up anytime soon, even stating that he’d be willing to pay to clean up at Zuccotti Plaza in New York City and do time in prison if he has to.

“I don’t want to [go to prison], but I believe in this,” Simmons told XXL on Friday. “We’re just getting started. Hip-hop is going to be a big part of this. I really feel like we can do it.”

Simmons hasn’t needed to dole out his dollars for a cleanup effort or bail just yet, though, as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg postponed his proposed clean up of Zuccotti Plaza early Friday (October 14), drawing praises from Simmons and many other protesters.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has had protesters clogging Zuccotti Plaza for nearly a month, trying to take and balance out power from the powers that be in Washington and have  the wealthy 1% give them back to majority 99%.

Simmons has tweeted that he’s part of the 100%, meaning he’s just as equal as everyone else.

Simmons brought Kanye West out to the protest earlier this week and other rappers such as Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Immortal Technique and Bun B have all been vocal about the protest. –Mark Lelinwalla
