Jay-Z & Kanye West’s Watch The Throne Tour Faces Hiccups in North Carolina

Jay-Z and Kanye West shut down North Carolina's Greensboro Coliseum last night (October 30) on the third date of their Watch The Throne Tour.

After the duo’s opening shows in Atlanta this past weekend, Jay and Yeezy graced the stage fashionably late—though all was forgotten once Hov emerged on an elevating cube opposite ‘Ye’s main stage to kick off an unforgettable night with “H.A.M.”

The energy throughout the show resembled a huge celebration more than a concert. Kanye and Jay’s friendship was obvious on the stage, and the crowd fed off their energy. The Throne donned specially made Givenchy outfits – Jay kept his more simple with his black Don C. snakeskin Yankee snapback while ‘Ye rocked a leather Givenchy kilt and his newly made “Yeezi” chain. The set list sequence was executed similarly to the previous Atlanta show, though there were some differences during their third stop on the tour. [Read Saturday night's show recap here]

Sunday night's show was not without its few mishaps, which were seemingly a result of the hype. For “All of the Lights,” ‘Ye stopped the show to request more lights from every section of the stage. After two failed attempts, he walked to the middle of the stage to stare down the head of lighting. The third attempt proved successful.

During “Good Life,” Mr. West forgot his second verse. Laughing it off, he announced he’d bring the instrumental back, though the crowd didn’t seem to mind. The accident further humanized Kanye after his touching joint performance with Jay during “New Day.” Claiming his verse was his favorite on the album, ‘Ye appeared teary eyed, pointing to the sky after referencing his late mother: “And I’d never let his mom move to L.A., knowing she couldn’t take the pressure now we all pray.”

As soon as Jay and Kanye ran through their hit single, “Niggas in Paris,” a grinning Hov shouted out: “Hold up, let’s bring that back!” After the second run through, the Roc boys thanked the crowd for their attendance and headed up the on-stage stairs, shrouded in darkness. After less than 10 seconds, Hov’s voice resonated through Greensboro Coliseum: “Are y’all ready to go home yet? Say ‘Hell no, we won’t go!’”

Chants ensued, and the laughing Roc Nation general ran back out with Mr. West to perform the Hit-Boy single for a third time. This time, Jay lost his place, smiled and shook his head before a laughing Kanye filled in. As the single ended, ‘Ye turned to Jay and seemed to tell him he was exhausted. The smiling duo paused to deliberate quickly, and then finished off their show with “Encore.”
