Last week G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean had the blogosphere in frenzy after debuting the remix to his new single, “Dance (A$$)” with Nicki Minaj. XXL reached out to the Detroit player to find out how the collaboration took place.

“Well we [Kevin Liles and manager Mike Brinkley] were talking about [the record] and they were like, ‘Yo they already playing “A$$” on the radio naturally, you just want to send it regular, add another verse [or] get somebody on it,”  the former XXL freshman recalled. “I was like, 'Let’s get somebody on it.'"

Sean then reached out to Nicki Minaj, who was already a fan of the record.

“So I called her, she was like, ‘Ah hell yeah, I love that song. I listen to that song everyday. My dancers were playing that everyday, send it over,’" he recalled. “She asked me to iChat it to [her] but, I was playing a little bit. [Eventually] I sent it over and she recorded it [the next day]."

Although the two artists already share a friendship, the collaboration was very much appreciated by the Def Jam artist.

“She’s a great friend of mine," he said, "so she did it for love, she did it for the art, and I think that’s one of the greatest things an artist can do.” —Ralph Bristout
