I totally respect that.

I like Wale, I really do, but Attention Deficit, while great as it was/is, is not a classic. It has nothing to it, sonically or structurally, that would lend itself to being one. And with that, I do not see his new album being any different; it will be amazing and underrated, but classic? No.

I will give it the benefit of the doubt (I did with Lil' B, and I'm Gay has a better shot as being a classic), but it seems that artists are chasing classic instead of just putting out good music and making sure that, if nothing else, it can stand the test of time. I highly doubt that Bach, Beethoven or Mozart were thinking how people will still be playing their music in the 21st century.

I do respect Wale's attitude about it, but it will take more than that to gain classic status.

see it be comments like this...no debatable facts or anything tangible...actually a waste of time...unless you heard BOTH of them albums, and you can tell and know what happens 10 years from now, what you said is fraudulent.

'Reasonable Doubt' was OVERLOOKED when it came out...Nas, Wu, Biggie were popping...'Can't Knock The Hustle' got spins, but realistically not because of Jay, but because of MARY J BLIGE (she had the super buzz at that time).

Christion had more buzz with 'Full Of Smoke' than 'Reasonable Doubt' did, and they were Roc artists from the leftcoast.

Wale, just put out FIRE, and make them go back and listen...SIMPLE FORMULA...

But cats be reaching with this "classic" label these days...THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN INSTANT CLASSIC, IT'S AN OXYMORON. THERE IS NO WAY SOMETHING THAT IS JUST RELEASED OR NOT EVEN CREATED FOR IT TO EXIST CAN BE CLASSIC, which means STANDS THE TEST OF TIME AND STILL IS RELEVANT WAY AFTER IT'S INCEPTION.

And good comment wilson...

It would be interesting to see how an album would sound without the influence of the label. I don't think that was as much of a problem in the 90's as it is now. If Jay handed in Reasonable Doubt to his label today (instead of 96) they wouldn't allow it to be released.

Artists know this. That's why we get their best work lyrically on mixtapes. In the 90's rappers gave their all into an album. They knew people would buy it and study it front to back becuse thats the only music you would hear from them until the next album dropped.

That may be part of the reason but i could be wrong.
