Johnny Nunez

With Murder Inc.'s lead bread-winner, Ja Rule, recently going to jail for a two-year bid for possession of a weapon, XXL decided to find out what some of the other mayor Inc. players are up to these days. What did we find? Some are acting, some are designing, some are plotting a return to music and some are simply still trying to find their way.—Mariel Concepcion and Shaheem Reid

Name: Black Child

What he’s Been Up To: Black Child says that after dropping his latest mixtape Silence Is Golden…, on Memorial Day, he’s literally starting a clean slate. No more cursing in his music and the content will have decidedly less focus on gun slinging and coke dealing. Additionally, since 2005, Black has made acting a main priority, co-starring in the short lived series Kojak with his good friend Ving Rhames and appearing in a handful of straight to DVD films. Black just completed the indy flick Sex, Money and You Already Know and says he’ll be dropping an album on the independent label Cherokee Black Records later this year.

Name: Cadillac Tah

What He’s Been Up To: Caddy got frustrated with hip-hop and after leaving Murder Inc. in 2007, he contemplated retiring. After persevering through problems with the IRS and fighting a marijuana drug possession charge for a year (he’s currently serving three years probation), Tah is returning to music independently. He’s currently working on a new mixtape called A Hustler’s World and hopes to release his debut LP sometime this year.

Name: Irv Gotti

What He’s Been Up To: Murder Inc’s last distribution deal ended in 2009 and Irv began to focus on loftier goals such as becoming the President of a major label. While that dream has yet to be fulfilled, I.G. started working on Shyne’s comeback album for Def Jam as well as the Diplomats reunion LP for Interscope, but has since left both projects.

Name: Lloyd

What He’s Been Up To: The youngest of the former Murder Inc. family members has been the most visible since leaving the camp. Lloyd has a string of big radio hits with his peers (Young Money’s “Bed Rock,” Lloyd Banks’ “Any Girl”) as well as for himself with the recent “Lay It Down” track. Lloyd, who has a new recording home at Interscope records, just finished touring with Diddy's Dirty Money.

Name: Vita

What She’s Been Up To: Vita broke out of Irv Gotti’s camp before any other artist almost a decade ago. Known chiefly for her co-starring roles on wax with Ja (“Down Ass Bitch (Remix)” and “Put It on Me”) and for her role in Belly with DMX, the Inc.’s first, First Lady has been relatively silent in the interim. Vita took a break from the industry to deal with the trauma of losing her mom to the lung disease C.O.D. With music now back on her radar, the venomous cutie has been recording with Rick Ross and conversing about joining his Maybach Music Group label. Besides cooking up a new mixtape and reading through film scripts, she’s also designing her own lingerie line.
