Lil Wayne’s MTV Unplugged airs this Sunday, June 12 and the YMCMB superstar will pay homage to one of the most legendary rappers in history, covering the Tupac hit "Hail Mary."

The self-proclaimed “Best Rapper Alive” is dropping the highly anticipated album Tha Carter IV this summer, but according to MTV, the New Orleans native is more concerned with commemorating one of the all-time great rap lyricists than promoting a new release.

"I knew because this is my Unplugged, I said, 'I want to do some kind of tribute to one of those great artists,'" Wayne said. "It's just something about 'Pac and I."

Although the song has been covered by a plethora of spitters, Weezy plans to convey the deeper message that 'Pac originally felt. "I picked the second verse, 'Penitentiaries is packed with the promise makers,' and I was like, 'That whole verse is just perfect. They never realized the precious time that they wasting.'"

Unplugged is set to air at 9 p.m. on MTV, MTV2, and MTV.com. —Nicole LoPresti
