35 Best Lil Wayne Opening Liners
Often said to be the hardest part of writing a verse, the opening line of a rhyme can make or break a song, or an MC. The opening bars set the tone and standard for a record while also establishing the listener’s expectations. Case in point: Lil Wayne. Aside from his signature tendency of defecating on tracks, the Louisianimal is also well known for his compelling rhyme openers. Whether he’s “Ballin’” and making those hoes call him Tunechi or standing “6’7”” while excusing his charisma, the boy Weezy always makes his presence known, off top. While we await Tha Carter IV, XXLMag.com looks back at some of Wayne’s best opening liners (in no particular order). —Ralph Bristout

3rd best, not even close, 1st off dre aint even a real rapper, peolpe write his shit, that aside i would put LL, Nas, Jay-Z, Andre 3000, Ice Cube, Kanye, hell even Drake all ahead of wayne as better rappers.

      • Yee

Lil Wayne doesnt write his own shit either.

        • what

not only do his opening lines sound wack… the whole verse is usually wack nd the whole song is usually wack

  • IownoX7

Lil Wayne’s verses suck. Big L was a better punchline king

  • TicNitty706

XXL you guys are still getting worst and worst. Most of those open liners are not good enough for the spotlight. Makes XXL staff looks desperate or some shit. Mag’s like this are one of the reasons mainstream rap sucks ass right now.

All the hate on your still commenting on the XXL site, lol. Sh*t is cool but, 35 though? damn

  • Trizzy

    • MC KP

Trizzy, you’re retarded. Lil D, you clearly know nothing about real hip hop or music in general. Weezy is a fucking sorry excuse for a “rapper”. If you disagree, you need to eat a dick and study up on some real shit.

  • WTF

What about the opening liner in “I Am Not A Human Being”?

  • Kevin F.

I think one of the best intros he ever spit was on Drake’s “I’m Goin In”

“Hello muthafucka hey hi, how ya dern, Its weezy f baby come to take a shit n urine on da toilet bowl bitches…Pussy ass niggas….stompin on dis beat like a mufuckin sigma”

    So Money!

  • HannansFinest

Weezy is an alright rapper, but yeah he aintt “the best rapper alive” and hes not one of the greatest, his songs don’t make anysense.

  • aye

Wayne isn’t a story telling rapper. He’s a wordplay-type of rapper. Some incorporate both. Most people don’t realize that.

Wayne may not be the “best rapper alive”, but he’s a very talented and skilled artist and does what he does.

As for this list, not all these were his best, and some seemed to be put up there just because they’re his new songs.

    What about “Eat You Alive”?

“Welcome to the carter, little shop of horror, bloody like a period, after DR”

That was his peak, between C2 and C3. He’s still a very talented wordsmith and his lyrics has gotten a little deeper (for the most part)

None of that bow chicka wow wow shit though fuck that

  • Trizzy

    i knw i am…
