It's been years since rap crossed over into the mainstream. Now, with each passing day, month and year, the genre is gaining more and more popularity and becoming more accessible to listeners everywhere.

In lieu of that, plenty of celebrities have tested their skills on the mic through the years. From athletes to actors to comedians, dozens of established entertainers have tried to put it down. Some have success; some, not so much.

Today marks the release of comedic trio The Lonely Island's sophomore rap album, Turtleneck and Chain, and the Saturday Night Live group is definitely in front of the celebs-trying-to-rap class. In honor of the release, we've decided to rank 35 of the most notable attempts. –Adam Fleisher

Mike Myers, “Hard Knock Life”
Rating: XL
Great beat selection coupled with typically funny lines make this a solid jam, but Dr. Evil's inability to ride the beat brings it down a bit.

Michelle Trachtenberg, "Shakin It 4 Daddy"
Rating: XL
Michelle looks pretty sexy spitting some Nicki Minaj, and she was almost able to keep up. If not for some laughter mid verse, the actress was making a push for a XXL.

Spencer Pratt, “I’m A Celebrity”
Rating: S
Stop. Just, stop.

Lou Williams, "I Want It All"
Rating: XXL
The NBAer holds his own on wax with XXL Freshman Meek Mill, and that's a pretty solid feat.

Jimmy Fallon & Justin Timberlake, “History of Rap!”
Rating: XXL
Rooted in history and backed by The Roots, this late night sung skit was pretty on point.

Justin Bieber, "Tim Westwood Freestyle"
Rating: XL
The girls are, "catching Bieber fever, forget the swine flu."

Amy Poehler, “Sarah Palin Rap”
Rating: L
This is a respectable attempt on the strength of making fun of Sarah Palin alone.

Stephen Colbert, “Michael Steele Response”
Rating: XL
Beef may have all but disappeared in rap, but Colbert did his best to bring it back.

Will Ferrell & John C. Reily, “Boats n’ Hoes”
Rating: XXL
As if the combo of boats and hoes wasn't good enough, lines like, "You won't go down 'cause my dick can float," make this a standout effort.

Rodney Dangerfield, “Rappin Rodney (No Respect)”
Rating: M
The theme of a getting a lack of respect fits right in with hip-hop, but the sub-par delivery brings this down.

Ron Jeremy, “Freak of the Week”
Rating: L
If not for the ladies in this video, it probably would have been slapped with an S.

Rick Moranis, “Ipanema Rap”
Rating: S
It's tough to decide if the rhymes or visuals are worse.

Miami Hurricanes Football, “7th Floor Crew”
Rating: L
This nine minute jam is a true crew cut, with explicit rhymes sure to make 2 Live Crew proud: "Come on fellas, let's get weird/Stick your dick up in her ear," suggests current Chicago Bears Tight End Greg Olsen.

Hulk Hogan, “I Wanna Be a Hulkamaniac”
Rating: M
This is fantastically horrible, but it gets an M for Hulk's encouragement to kids to eat their vitamins.

Joe Pesci, “Wiseguy Rap”
Rating: L
The beat is decent and the rhymes are pretty awful, but Pesci is a true G.

John Cena, “Right Now”
Rating: L
Cena's really not all that bad, especially over this soulful production. Plus, we were scared what would happen if he got anything below an L.

Macho Man Randy Savage, “Macho Man”
Rating: L
Macho Man was basically 50 Cent before 50 with this diss: I smell pussy, is that you Hogan?

Eddie Murphy, “Boogie In Your Butt”
Rating: L
The comedian definitely captured the sound of the moment when this parody was released.

Tila Tequila, “I Love You”
Rating: XL
The internet sensation gets aggressive and sexual in this video, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Joaquin Phoenix, “Live In Miami”
Rating: XXL
He jumped off the stage to fight a fan that was giving him shit: How hip-hop is that?! (Yeah, we know it wasn't real. Still.)

Tom Hanks & Dan Aykroyd, “City of Crime”
Rating: S
Yes, Chet Haze is better than his pops. Deal with it.

Vinny from Jersey Shore, “Black and Guido”
Rating: L
This is probably better than The Situation or Snookie trying to rap. So, there's that.

Shaquille O’Neal, “(I Know I Got) Skillz”
Rating: XXL
Back when he was dropping rhymes in the early '90s, Shaq had it. Especially when viewed upon the celebrity scale.

Kobe Bryant & Brian McKnight, “Hold Me”
Just about anyone could sound good flowing over a Trackmasters beat, and Kobe was no exception. That said, he's bars were only half bad.

Roy Jones, Jr., “Y’all Must Have Forgot”
Rating: XL
Light keys and rampant shit talk make this a potent jab from the fighter, even if it's not quite a KO.

Ron Artest, “Champion”
Rating: XL
Say Queensbridge!

Revenge of the Nerds, “Techno-Rock”
Rating: L
This is a little out there, but it's tolerable.

Washington Bullets, “You the Man”
Rating: XL
Simply chanting, "You the man, you the man," this was pretty hard to mess up.

Perez Hilton, "Untitled"
Rating: S
Stick to blogging. You do that exceptionally well.

Jay Pharoah, "Thanksgiving Rap"
Rating: XXL
On point impressions and topical rhymes remind us why the comedian scored his gig on SNL.

Kendra Wilkinson, "What's Your Fantasy"
Rating: M
The playmate forgot some words and couldn't ride the beat, but she gets and M on the thoughts of other riding possibilities.

Chris Webber, "Gangsta, Gangsta"
Rating: XL
C-Webb wasn't bad on the mic, but we prefer him behind the boards (he produced Nas' "Surviving the Times" and "Blunt Ashes").

Tom Green, "My Bum Is On Your Lips"
Rating: L
This rhyme is noteworthy if for no other reason than that it gave Eminem some ammo in "The Real Slim Shady."

Wayne Brady, "I'm Just A Caucasian"
Rating: XL
Brady brings his improv comedy to music.

Aries Spears, "Rapper Medley"
Rating: XXL
It actually sounds like LL, Snoop, DMX and Jay are in the booth together. That's a winning combo to us.

Allen Iverson, 40 Bars
Rating: L
This track was alright, but there's probably a reason we didn't hear much more from AI after this.
