I blame these numbers on the artists themselves.

Long gone are the days when a record label set up a budget for you to market your album (and anyway…they would probably recoup that anyway). You have the internet now. If your dumb ass didn’t build your following and you relied heavily on your label you’s-a-dummy.

No longer can you start beef and then make-up and expect your fans (so-called) will still be around to see you squash beef so that they can purchase your new album. They’re on to the next hot item. You’d probably be better off not deadin’ the beef than coming back on some “we are the world” ish.

No longer can a rapper take a 4 or 5 year vacation and then come back on some “I’m baaack” bull ish. Hell, Michael Jackson couldn’t even pull that one off, and that dude was THE MAN (or THE IT, whichever you prefer).

Bottom line….. Rappers who come in to the game and are not looking to set up their own labels and protect their own fortunes are dummies. And they’re probably getting what they deserve.
