Lupe Projected to Top the Charts

The Chicago native’s Lasers looks to have shaken up the charts…

Lupe Fiasco fans have mobilized once again.

After gaining thousands of signatures on a petition urging for the release of Fiasco’s long delayed album Lasers, it seems like Lupe’s fans may help him earn the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 next week.

According to HitsDailyDouble, which projects album sales, the Chi-town spitter’s disc is expected to move about 220,000-240,000 units in its first week on shelves. If those numbers hold up, that will make Lasers the highest-selling debut of Lupe’s career; it will also be the second highest debut of 2011.

Meanwhile, Raekwon’s Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang, which also came out yesterday, is projected to sell 20,000-25,000 units.

Well-deserved…Lupe did something great with an album that was basically forced. To all my real LASERS “Food & Liquor 2″ on the way.

Well, this is hits daily double. I remember them being wrong about Rick Ross beating Eminem like it was yesterday. Wouldn’t surprise me if this prediction is off the mark come next week.

I wonder how Bol feels about doing ‘Lupe Fiasco numbers’ now. Album is still mediocre.

Black youth’s biggest enemies are possessive nouns and subject-verb agreement.

Lupe semi-sold out and will make big money, does he sell out further?

Pharoahe Monch’s WAR will be album of the year.

He might not have a choice if this album sells well. Atlantic Records pretty much told him “do things our way or you don’t get to release the album, nor will we release you from your contract.” If this record succeeds Atlantic won’t give him any other choice but to continue selling out.

True. Lupe may have sold out to contain a more commercial sound in his music. But honestly I’d rather see a rapper with positive, uplifting music sell out as opposed to a rapper that raps about the same topics (drugs, crime, sex, ect). Waka Flocka raps about killing people yet showed up on an ad by PETE to stop skinning animals. Wayne raps about the shit I mentioned and was eager to use autotune, make a pop-rock album, and do songs with Maddona. I’m not hating on Waka or Wayne but lets stop this criticism whenever a back pack rapper (Common) incorporates a poppish sound that other rappers do and get praised as if they’re making career moves.

LUPE IS IN HIS OWN LANE.IF HE GET THOSE NUMBERS IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR HIP HOP.fINALLY SOME HIP HOP WITH A PURPOSE.HE WILL LAST FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

I’m not sure if Lupe doing good numbers on album that he doesn’t even like is going to help much. Atlantic may use this as an excuse to continue taking away his creative control. I listened to the album and was thoroughly disappointed with the beat selection and guest appearances, if this album does well the next album might sound as bad.

He never said he hated the album. He said he “hated the process” that he had to go through to get it out. He actually loves the music on the album.
