In the current issue (March 2011) of XXL Magazine, hip-hop’s obsession with the Illuminati is investigated due to persistent rumors that linked rappers to the secret society for much of last year. Today’s rap superstars, like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, have all been labeled as members of the clandestine organization founded by a German scholar in 1776. Though many of them have brushed off the accusations the rumors continue. And while the Illuminati hip-hop talk reached its peak in 2010, it’s not a new phenomenon to the genre.

Way back in 1995 when Mobb Deep’s Prodigy rapped “Illuminati want my mind soul and body” on the remix to LL Cool J’s street banger “I Shot Ya” rappers have been talking amount the secret cult. Most famously, rap icon Tupac Shakur adopted the alter ego Makaveli to release his Illuminati myth-busting LP, Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. Though Pac’s album stirred a huge amount of talk about the Illuminati, chatter died down in the early 2000′s and reappeared in the latter part of the decade, with Jay-Z being the main target for Illuminati believers.

    I think that it’s real. Especially since when you turn on the radio, you only hear certain artists all day every day. Most artists sound like the main artist(s) in this Illuminati, including the new ones. Hip hop used to have such an appeal to it, b/c it came from many directions, many points of view. Nowadays, rappers are babbling, but never talking about anything of substance. The music lacks “soul,” meaning you can’t really dance to it. You get no feeling from it, b/c all the tracks sound the same. Not to mention, in today’s hip hop, they’d like to make you think that hip hop prior to 2Pac & Biggie is irrelevant. Thus, you have all of these rappers making the statement of who’s in the top 5 of all times, and you will always have them mention Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, maybe Wayne, maybe Eminem, maybe Kanye, but ALWAYS the first 3. Those who don’t rap in their fashion basically “do not exist.” You have these rappers throwing up masonic or demonic signs and wearing clothing that has demonic symbols. Kanye, for example, can’t even get through a show b/c he chooses to rant about how great he is & why he doesn’t get the recognition he feels he deserves (how ignorant of him). And if you think this is bull, just see who is nominated for the upcoming Grammy awards in hip-hop and R&B categories, and you’ll see what time it REALLY is. Go back & see the American Music Awards: the nominees were Niki, Wayne, and Kanye, for BOTH awards!
