Kanye West Clears up Comments About Britney Spears on Twitter

After Kanye West tweeted yesterday (January 17) about Britney Spears’ latest single, “Hold It Against Me,” surpassing his collaboration with Jay-Z, “H.A.M,”  from Watch the Throne, the media began to have a field day conjuring up stories. MSNBC and other news outlets started to report that the Chicago lyrist’s tweets were attempts at slander.

On Monday West took to Twitter to clear things up. "When I said the comment about Britney I was giving her props for being #1 not dissing her at all," he wrote.

The tweet that started everything has since been deleted but had West playfully referencing his infamous incident with Taylor Swift (where he crashed the stage during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV VMAs), saying, “Yo Britney, I'm really happy for you and Imma let you be #1, but me and Jay-z single is one of the best songs of all time!"

After MSNBC ran a news piece stating that West was trying to start a Twitter beef with Spears, the MC took to the social networking site to clear things up. "Just saw that MSNBC said I tried to start a twitter war with Brittany," he typed. "This shit takes the air out my lungs sometimes from blogs to news reports… enough already!!!” West said. Clearly offended by the media’s twist on his joke, he continued, “All I do is focus on my work. There's a new lie everyday… I'm one of the most considerate people in real life. Maybe over considerate. Over caring. Overly real. There is no astronaut training for celebrity… even though this whole life is so outer space! I was actually surprised that a record as raw as 'H.A.M' could make it to #2 on Itunes. How can u "let" someone be number one??!! That was the whole joke!!!”

West’s latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, was recently certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). After only being in stores for two months, West made sure to thank his supporters by tweeting, "Once again thank you to all my fans who made MBDTF certified platinum!
