G. Dep was indicted on murder charges today (December 21) by a Manhattan grand jury.

As previously reported, the former Bad Boy rapper surprisingly revealed to police that he shot a man 17 years ago, earlier this month. Dep confessed to cops he gunned down John Henkel on October 19,1993, during a botched robbery attempt outside of a Harlem project building. Detailing the incident, Dep, who was 18 at the time, admitted to tossing his .40 caliber gun in the East River after using it on his victim. Cops checked his story with their file on the unsolved case and it apparently matched up.

In an interview with the New York Post, Dep said he didn’t know that Henkel died from the gunshot wounds. "When they told me [he passed away], I was like, 'Oh, I'm not going home after this,'" the ex Diddy protégé said. "I'm just trying to get right with God."

Dep’s lawyer said the rapper, who has struggled with drug use over the last decade, is currently on the road to recovery. "He's trying to remake his life," Michael Alperstein told the Post. "He was making amends" through a 12-step narcotics program. He didn't know he'd killed somebody. He knew he'd done something wrong."

If convicted, Dep faces 25 years to life in prison and he has not been offered bail.
