Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon II Sells 169K in First Week

The official first week numbers are in. According to the Nielsen SoundScan report, released today (November 17), Kid Cudi is the highest selling hip-hop artist this week.

Despite falling short of Hits Daily Double’s early projections of 180,000-220,000, Cudi’s sophomore album, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, still managed to sell around 169,400 units, earning the G.O.O.D. Music star a spot at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200.

Also debuting this week is Cee Lo Green. The Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley rep managed to land at the No. 9 spot after pushing 41,400 copies of his new release, The Lady Killer, off the shelves.

Directly below Lo is Lil Wayne and Eminem, holding down the No. 10 and No. 11 spots respectively. Weezy’s I Am Not A Human Being sold 35,200 discs, while Em fans bagged up about 34,300 of Recovery. Overall, the New Orleans MC is sitting on 446,100 CDs sold after 7 weeks and Shady about 2,970,600 after 21 weeks.

New discs by Twista, Trill Fam and Joe Budden failed to crack the Top 40 but still made an impact on the Top 200. Twista’s The Perfect Storm grabbed the No. 42 spot with 14,100 in sales, Trill Fam—which consists of Lil Boosie, Webbie & Lil Trill, among others—got the No. 49 position with 13,000 copies of All or Nothing sold and Joe Budden’s Mood Muzik 4: A Turn for the Worst, snatched up 6,100.

Next week look for Nelly’s new disc, 5.0, to debut on the charts. —Elan Mancini
