The Price Of Pharrell’s Bars [#7 of Top 10 Producers Turned Rappers]

The transition from hip-hop maestro to rap artist is a tough one, and not everyone can master it. But when it comes to getting down on the mic, some beatsmiths just have the gift of gab. With Kanye West making the successful leap from soulful in-house producer to one of the game’s most respected (and controversial) voices on the mic, XXL felt it only right to count down the best 10 producers turned rappers of all time in the October 2010 issue, which is on stands now.

Coming in at No. 7 is Pharrell Williams, who set trends when he name drops clothing brands and expensive trinkets in his verses. Be sure to pick up the October issue to get the full write up on the Virginia native and how he earned his spot. But for now, here’s the dollar amount behind 5 of Pharrell’s priciest bars.

Pharrell’s “You Can Do It Too”
“I ordered the Phantom Coupé, that’s smoke-pipe gray/And the interior was like crack-rock beige.”
Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé ($400,000) + Large Crack Rock ($40) = $400,040

Pharrell’s “Can I Have It Like That”
“From Louis deals to Jimmy Choos, he’s real/She knows the time, she sees the Richard Mille/Flat double-skeletal Tourbillon/It’s just like her body, ooh, it turns her on.”
Richard Mille Tourbillon Watch = $500,000

Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot”
“See these ice cubes, see these Ice Creams/Eligible bachelor, million-dollar boat that whiter than what’s spilling down your throat/The Phantom, exterior like fish eggs/The interior like suicide-wrist red.”
Boat ($1,000,000) + Ice Cream Sneakers ($200) + Rolls-Royce Phantom ($450,000) = $1,450,000

Pharrell’s “How Does It Feel”
“Now the Enzo doors go up like a DeLo-/Rean, same song sung from my man Nigo SLR/When the doors go up, it’s like a fresh L jar.”
DeLorean DMC-12 ($25,000) + Ferrari Enzo ($1,000,000) + Mercedes Benz SLR ($495,000) = $1,520,000

Kelis’s “Milkshake (Remix)”
“Yeah, nigga, see me in the air, nigga/Learjet, then I’m there, nigga/A G somethin’, and I’m coastin’/Hit a bird out the sky, see him closin’ to the ocean/Yeah, nigga, I wear Bathing Ape, not Air, nigga/It’s like five hundred for a pair, nigga.”
Learjet (4,000,000) + Bathing Ape Sneaker ($500) =$4,000,500

Got to go with “You can do it too”. When he says he’s getting head from a bitch named ‘what now” as the PJ touches down. You believe him. Million other niggaz talk that G5 ish, but P can and actually has done it.

Never in a million years I’ll imagine I’ll get my thrills
By listening to squeals of PJ wheels
As we land I duck down, I stick my head up my dick is
being sucked down, by a bitch named what now
I look in her eyes, and her eyes are like an orange stars
Look at the reflection of my foreign car by R & R
I stick my feet out, you know the bapes that’s made of eel
You know the new checks with nigo face right on the heel
    I was a marching band, I was a skateboader
Jesus made wine, I couldn’t make water
Ox-moronic, I’m here to destroy all you hate hoarders
You niggaz were cool in school now you niggaz take orders
    I’m not dissin your job
But now you listen and nod
Some mount the limit shit, I know this position is odd

I actually bought Pharrell’s album. He comes off as a decent rapper better than any others listed so far, but he’s def better as a producer. Def be checkin for more CRS music though.
