It seems like Fat Joe and Scoop Deville can do no wrong. First, they had the streets in a frenzy with The Darkside: Vol. 1’s lead single, “Slow Down (Ha Ha).” More recently, the pair shut it down P.E. style with their new collabo, “No Problems.” While everyone is buggin’ over the way Scoop flipped Public Enemy’s staple “Terminator X to the Edge of Panic,” the XXL staff was more impressed with his usage of the original sample, “Flash” by Queen, from the 1980 film, Flash Gordon. Throughout hip-hop’s history, beatmakers have been diggin' in the crates to find heat from the classic rock group so we figured it was time to check the melody.

Kurtis Blow "Christmas Rappin’" (1980)

Queen “Another One Bites the Dust”

Old school legend Kurtis Blow took this wedding play list staple and turned it into a Xmas anthem. Question is, who’s got on a better outfit, KB or Queen frontman Freddie Mercury (R.I.P.)?

Vanilla Ice “Ice Ice Baby” (1990)

Queen “Under Pressure”

Vanilla Ice’s infamous song caused a lot of controversy in the hip-hop community (“Pop Goes the Weasel” anyone?) and the courtroom (never paying Queen for using the sample, he was forced to go into his wallet after the group sued him for royalties) but you can’t deny that the beat is hot and the song was a glorified hit. It was such a big smash, Suge Knight ended up visiting the rapper to get a piece.

Eminem "Til I Collapse" (2002)

Queen "We Will Rock You"

Queen’s indelible drum line plus Nate Dogg’s G funk vocals equals an instant classic. Shady knew exactly where to turn for the backdrop of this hard hitting sing-a-long from The Eminem Show. Join in, “Music is like magic/There’s a certain feelin’ you get/When you real and you spit/And people are feelin’ your shit…”

Dame Dash, Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, Cam’ron, Young Chris & Twista “We Are The Champions” (2002)

Queen "We Are the Champions"

Before Kanye, Cam and Beans were talkin’ their shit, they were all taking notes from the Roc-A-Fella co-founder, Damon Dash. To commemorate the label’s dominance,‘Ye sped up Queen’s seminal hit and Dash recruited his Dream Team for this joint off the Paid in Full soundtrack to do what they do best.

Shaun Boothe “Poor Boy” (2009)

Queen “Bohemian Rhapsody”

The T. Dot up-and-comer turned plenty of heads after rapping over Queen’s legendary "Bohemian Rhapsody." With those piano lines and the vocal snippet from Mercury, it’s a “Rhap.”
