Vote For The Best XXL Cover of 2003 [DAY 4]

It’s day four of XXL’s look back on our decade of dominance as we reflect on all the covers we’ve done over the past 10 years. Throughout the years, various staffers have chimed in on which was the best XXL cover and for the first time we’re bringing you, the reader, into the discussion with a special online ballot.

From now until the end of next week (Jan. 15), you’ll have the chance to vote for the Best XXL Cover from the past decade. Each day we’ll put up all the covers from a different year (2000 to 2009) until we’ve tallied the votes and have the top 10 fan favorites by year.

After that, we’ll kick off a second round of voting (Jan. 18 – Jan. 21) to find out which one will be crowned the Best XXL Cover of the Millennium. You can only vote for one cover a day, but feel free to come back to vote again for the best cover of 2000, 2001 and 2002. The Best XXL Cover of the Millennium will be announced on Friday, January 22.

Without further ado, the 2003 XXL cover nominees are…

The Dre EMINEM AND 50 cover Aftermath was runnin shit like a turd on a treadmill back then. That was probably the best issue I read that year next to the one with Tupac 7 years later cover the issue was damn near all about pac.I think I read about 5 of these issues.

who was the winner of 2002 best xxl mag??? hope it was “BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY”!!

I voted for the NaS cover. The significance of that cover makes it an instant classic. That picture, in every sense of the word, speaks louder than words.

The 3 headed monster cover (Dre, Em, 50) was significant too. It marked the time when XXL squashed the Em/Aftermath beef. I can understand why it has most of the votes at this time-stamp. This was when The Source committed suicide with its all-black cover. XXL, yall must’ve sold a gang of these!

Honorable mention to Foxy for the eye candy.

Someone said yesterday that XXL should repost some of these old classic articles. I second that motion.

I’m off to work. See ya this evening.

  • caino

l 3rd the motion to repost some of the old articles etc.

l voted for the Nas cover as well, yes l understand that the 3 headed monster was running things then , but like Jamal says above me, that was also due to the Source committing carear suicide!

    2010 !

  • sincity

I Voted for Em/50/Dre,that cover is a fucking classic.Money Power Respect

  • Federal Ranga

This isn’t even close… the Nas cover is a distant second to the Em/50/Dre cover. Be real about it.

I voted for the Big Boi cover. Big DF fan. But I agree on posting some of the old articles. I never got to check out that ‘making of Makaveli’ one.

    • Schoolcraft313

Blakout, you mean Andre 3000 cover. I would have voted for that if both Outkast members were on the cover. Peace, fam.

Kinda on a side note. I own damn near every Source magazine from ’93-’04. They just sit around collecting dust. Get at me,im tryna sell em.

To this day I am still angry that I did not get the March 2003 cover. I want that shit so badly, you guys don’t know. I gotta order that back issue. I mean, damn! 2003 was the year! And Marshall looks good

lol That cover got the most votes so far. It far exceeds the other covers. I for sure don’t wanna be walking around with a near-naked Trina cover lol. I’d feel self-conscious

    • latino heat

  • http://runredcreative.com sallyb

    This was a killer year!

  • latino heat

again i’m voting for historical significance over artistic value.

that 50 cover is just legendary. anybody from the Bay knows that they still have that blown up cover signed by 50, framed and hanging on the wall at the Rasputin’s in Berkeley. as much as i loved the Nas cover and how dope the idea was, it just wasn’t the topic of conversation everywhere like the 50 cover was. people that didn’t even read XXl (most females) knew about that issue.

h.m. again to Foxy for the t&a.

i might be the only one, but when i went to the store to buy the Outkast issue i bought the Big Boi cover. sorry, Dre’s outfit was just horrible.
