I knew you would try to get technical lol! I still don't consider him a hip hop legend, unless he contributed something great to hip hop, and he has contributed.....................

if that the case then 85% of these muthafucka in hip-hop wouldn't be considered legends...lol
but i'll not going to hate on the dude..he DOES have the longevity...he was doing straight hip-hop up until his crossover hit back in '99...but he was doing the detroit thing for the longest...
it's funny that one point every white rapper had to come from the detroit area...and all of them going platinum at the sametime...eminem, ICP, limp bisquit, and kid rock....
i have respect for eminem because he's an emcee's emcee...and i have respect for kid rock, because for one...he NEVER tried to manipulate the culture or front he's this or that, and at the sametime....he's more of a TRUE musician..in every since...but still shows love for hip-hop
but since then he's done rock, country, knows how to play his own instruments...and i didn't even know he knew how to dj...until the hip-hop honors...
and if THEY allow him on that show...and to BE on that show showing respect to the DJ...the element that STARTED it all...then by all means...can't hate on the brother...he's hip-hop in my eyes
i always thought he was hip-hop ever since that one time on the MTV awards when he reunited RUN-DMC and aerosmith back together to preform "walk this way" live....i thought that shit was hot, in my opinion...i can never hate on a brother that respect the legends that gave him the opportunity to do the music he does now.....

I'm not questioning him being "hip hop." I seen the same show and could see how much he loves and respects the culture. BUT a HIP HOP LEGEND??? C'mon Gluv!

all put it in simpler terms...lol
it all depends on who you think is a legend....we may not think he is, but whut about others???? i mean he may have put impact for detroit, he IS definately a pioneer when it comes to mixing hip-hop and rock together.....
i consider BLONDIE a lengend when it comes to hip-hop even though she doesn't do hip-hop music...
i consider c-bo a hip-hop legend even though other may not....
all i'm saying is that dude DID pay his dues...and HE DO have the longevity...longer than most rappers that they claim are "legends" themselves...and he DO have the respect in hip-hop elite circles..such as run-dmc, jay-z, the roots, and so on...
just because he's commercially successful doesn't mean he's NOT a legend...it's perspective...some people may look at him as one...in truth he does meet the qualifications

I remember reading a post about Madonna suing Mary J. Blige and Dr. Dre for "stealing" bits of one of her songs to use in Mary's song, "Not Today". I also remember the Young Black Teenagers making a diss song, called "To My Donna" aimed at Madonna for lifting Public Enemy's "Security Of The First World" for her song "Justify My Love". (PE was instrumental in getting YBT their record deal on Hank Shocklee's label)

Kid Rock wadn't no damned member of Young Black Teengaers. The dude was still in high school when they were out. Stuart Scott was straight trippin for that one. Maybe he was just joking. And people were mixing rock and rap way before Kid Rock.
