JERSEY SALES: Lakers G Kobe Bryant, on some fans remaining supportive of him after a report that his jersey has fallen out of the top 50 in sales: “I have a base of supporters that stay with me through thick and through thin. (The decline of jersey sales is) not something I lose sleep over. I just go out there and work hard every day, and hopefully one day things will turn back around” (L.A. TIMES, 1/10)....Following a pre-game, on-court interview with Nuggets F Carmelo Anthony before Saturday’s Nuggets-Spurs game, ABC’s Mark Jones said, “Despite Carmelo’s off-court things lately, he has three of the top ten-selling jerseys still in the NBA” (“Nuggets-Spurs,” ABC, 1/8).
GLIDING TO CHINA: Basketball HOFer Clyde Drexler has signed a two-year deal with Chinese sports brand Athletic of Fujian Province, making him the “first American NBA player promoting a Chinese sports brand” (XINHUANET, 1/9).
AFTER CHRISTMAS GIVING: In Miami, Barry Jackson notes that last week, Heat G Dwyane Wade, who has a deal with Converse, “gave 200 pairs of the company's sneakers to 180 employees on the Heat's business side. One employee couldn't recall any current or former Heat player doing anything like that” (MIAMI HERALD, 1/9).
